THE NOAHIC COVENANT PART 3 of 8

Part 3 of 8 Covenants:
Scripture References:  Genesis :20-22; 9:27

Genesis 8:20-22
(V20) "And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar."
(V20) In Genesis chapter six we read where God decided to destroy man whom he had created because of his wickedness and moral depravity.  The holy scriptures also tell us that even the thoughts of their imagination were on evil twenty-four-seven, because the earth was overflowing with violence.  Before Noah and his family entered the ark to spend forty days and nights God established a covenant with them.

(V21) "And the Lord smelled a sweet savor and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done."
(V21) Even though God thought to destroy the earth He savored a sweet smell coming from the midst of the putrefied ground.  Christians today should take notcie and do as God did and like Samson of old who found honey in the carcass of a lion (Judges 14:9). This is a hard virtue to find in today's modern congregations where they can't seem to find anything good to say about anyone or anything they do.

(V22) "While the earth remained, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."
(V22) This scriptural promise from God should come to mind every time we see the farmer sowing seed and gathering corn from the field, the seasons change, and day follows night.  It should be lodged in our hearts and riveted in our minds that God is faithful and will fulfill every promise He has ever made.

CHAPTER 9:27
(V27) "God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant."
(V27) To find out why Canaan was a servant read 9:18-27.  In verse 25 we read where he was cursed by his father, Ham, because he had looked upon the nakedness of Noah, his grandfathr.  Shem was the line by which the Messiah came and Japheth was blessed in union with the line and the seed.  We now know the seed was the "Lord Jesus Christ".
